At the suggestion of the Abizeramarya Sisters, with whom the Brothers of Charity have had an excellent working relationship in Rwanda over the years, we decided in 2010 to open a community in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic. Our first task was to train local candidates. After some time, the archbishop of Bangui asked us to organize social and pastoral care in the city’s central prison.
After the severe crisis and the state of war that ravaged the country in 2014, the brothers started the care of young people with post-traumatic disorders. Now, they are planning to build a mental health facility, the first and only one country. Again, the Brothers of Charity have been asked to be pioneers in the field of mental health.
