At the request of the bishop of Awassa, and because we had a number of candidates from Ethiopia, we decided to start a small formation community in Addis Ababa in 2010. It became the first formal community of brothers in Mekanisa. At the same time, a number of brothers travelled to Awassa to start a community and to investigate the apostolate they could undertake.
After consideration, we agreed to the request of the archbishop of Addis Ababa to take over the mental health centre in Gefersa. So, in less than no time, a third community was formed mostly with brothers from other African countries. Following the profession of a large group of brothers from Ethiopia in March 2016, a fourth community was created in Yirga Chefe, where we opened a day centre for people with disabilities, as well.
