In 1988, a new foundation within the Congregation was entrusted to the Saint Joseph region of UK-Ireland. It focused on the care and support of children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities near Colombo, Sri Lanka. A beautiful centre was built in Ja-Ela. At the same time, they started training local brothers. In 2012, a local congregation of brothers called the ‘Brothers of Saint Joseph’ joined the Brothers of Charity, who gained several houses and apostolic works.

Today, the Brothers of Charity are active in Ja-Ela, Colombo, in a home for people with intellectual disabilities in Batticaloa, in a boarding school for boys, a nursery school, and a rehabilitation home for chronic mental patients in Kalmunai, in a technical school in Trincomalee, and in a house of formation for brothers in Katugastota near Kandy.
