After the fall of Nicolae Ceaucescu in December 1989, an appeal was made to the Brothers of Charity to contribute to the reconstruction of Romania.

In 1992, the first school for psychiatric nurses was opened in Bucharest, followed by the establishment of a shelter for children with HIV/AIDS in Timisoara. A community of brothers settled in Iasi in 1999. They set up a training course for psychiatric nurses and offered supported housing for people with mental health problems.

Today, the presence of the Brothers of Charity is continued by a group of associate members who have a direct link with the General House in Rome. Fracarita Romania monitors all activities.
