In our capacity of General Administration, we fully disapprove of the vision statement as it goes against the basic principles inherent in the charism of the Congregation. See the appendix for our comments in response to the text. We would also like to mention that we have asked the Belgian Bishops’ Conference to express their views on this vision statement that goes against the doctrine of the Catholic Church.
The Vatican has asked us, specifically the Congregation of Consecrated Life and the Secretariat of State, to explain what is happening in this section of the Congregation.
For now, we will not offer any opinion on what will happen if this text is not revised and if they will not return to the previous procedure developed by the Congregation. We will not comment on the matter. We will await the responses of the Bishops’ Conference and the Vatican to make a final decision as a Congregation with regard to this serious disagreement and we still hope to reach an agreement, in which the inviolability of the neighbour can be absolutely respected, for that is the essence of our charism as Brothers of Charity.
